Have you ever found yourself frustrated because you keep getting asked for
the same thing from your customers that you don’t currently provide? Or perhaps
they complain about things that you see as frivolous or irritating? Perhaps it’s
time to take a new look at what your customers are inadvertently telling you. In
fact, you might be looking at a new opportunity directly in the face.
As many successful business professionals will tell you, new ideas have often
come from customer complaints or requests. There are many so-so businesses
out there that have taken off once an owner listened to a customer’s request and
decided to turn around and give them exactly what they wanted. Of course, there
has to be some moderation to this process, as we all know not all customer
requests are feasible. But the requests that make sense not only should be paid
attention to, but could possibly be a gold mine waiting to be discovered.
For example, maybe your services include customizing business brochures for
promotional purposes. And say your customers keep telling you they wish they
could have more room to include personalized success stories, or that they need
video compliments, like a business DVD. Instead of referring them to other
companies or telling them you don’t do that, perhaps it’s time to expand your
menu of services and offer a wider array of promotional pieces. This may seem
like an obvious solution, but sometimes you might be so closely tied up in your
day-to-day operations, that you oversee what’s obvious to your customers.
Take a moment to evaluate the types of complaints or concerns your customers
have been communicating to you. Maybe there’s a message in there somewhere that
will spur you into expanding your business and becoming more successful.
