Marketing Strategies for Small Businesses Using a Buddy System, Part 2

Creative marketing techniques and promotional opportunities can be found when using the buddy marketing approach

As we discussed in the first part of this series, identifying a business that can serve as a buddy to increase your marketing efforts can be beneficial for all parties involved. Once you’ve found a complimentary business to help focus your marketing efforts, you can be creative in finding ways to utilize this partnership. Here are additional ways to consider making the most out of your buddy system:

Promote each other. Provide each other with plenty of your own marketing materials, business cards, etc. When either of you speak at a conference or teach a class, promote yourself and your buddy as well.

Sponsor a contest. You can team up at philanthropic events to sponsor contests and offering prizes. They don’t have to be costly or elaborate. Your business names will be well represented as you sponsor the event.

Offer a seminar. If you’ve chosen a buddy business that is an appropriate compliment, consider offering a well-rounded class or seminar through your local library, continuing education program, or community facility. Offer valuable educational advice and information, take-home materials and perhaps coupons or incentives. Invite additional businesses to participate if it will allow you to offer a more detailed educational event.

Finding the right partner can mean great success when using a buddy marketing technique. Both of you will experience the benefits, and it can also increase networking potential for everyone. When done well, a buddy system can be a perfect solution for creative and innovative business marketing.
