You are getting sleepy … very sleepy! Okay, so we’re not exactly talking about being hypnotized and performing strange acts in public without knowing it. We’re simply talking meditation, and it can be a learned skill that can help you relax and gain focus during your day-to-day struggles with running your home business. In the first part of this series, we took a look at what meditation experts feel are the three steps to finding peace in your busy world. In this installment, you’ll discover tips that can help you mediate successfully: 1. Investigate. By reading about basic meditation techniques, you can find a resource that describes the process in a way you can relate to and easily follow. Find a book or online source that walks you through the meditation process, or attend a class that introduces the initial steps of meditation. Once you find a process you like, you’re ready to practice regularly. 2. Set the mood. Identify a specific place in your office or home that will be your meditation spot. Find a quiet, comfortable place, like a corner in your bedroom, and create a cozy atmosphere. You could place a candle or vase of fresh flowers nearby, and light some incense if you like. Peaceful, relaxing music will also enhance your meditation experience. 3. Get in the mood. Some experts suggest that you meditate after showering. If not then, it is suggested that you wash your hands and face, wear loose fitting garments, and make sure your shoes are off so your whole body can relax. Find a cushion and sit on the floor, or sit in a supportive chair. The best choice is to be in a sitting position so that you don’t get too relaxed and fall asleep. 4. Begin the process. Once you’ve gotten comfortable, take deep breaths to prepare your body and mind to relax. Experts say that five minutes of meditation at first is enough to get your body and mind used to doing it. Make sure you meditate during the best time of day for you, when you can put your troubles away and focus on your body and breathing. Many participants find that first thing in the morning is a good time to meditate. Others appreciate a mid-day break to settle down and re-focus. Just remember to take your time and enjoy the process. Once you have gotten familiar with meditation techniques and found a way to incorporate this process into your work life, you will probably notice a “lightening of the mind,” and a more relaxed state of being. This can only help you as you handle your daily stresses and challenges. |
