Additional small business tips for having an environmentally friendly office

In the first part of this series we discussed some basic ways you can be
environmentally friendly and help make your business a green one. Now we’ll take
a look at a few additional things you can do to make a difference:

Dam it up. Install displacement toilet dams in your toilet
reservoirs. One way to do this is by placing one or two plastic containers
filled with stones (not bricks) in the toilet’s reservoir. This will displace
about 4 liters of water per flush, which adds up to a substantial reduction over
a full year.

Choose recycled products. When you shop for paper, choose a
type that contains maximum available recycled content. When choosing a supplier,
ask if they take back packaging for reuse, and then take advantage of the
service.

Awareness. Become more aware of “greener” products or
services within your local community. The more you maximize local vendors or
suppliers, the less energy is wasted when they make their deliveries to you.

There are many resources available for small businesses or individuals who
want to start running a more environmentally friendly household or home-based
business. A quick search on the Internet can get you going. Here are a couple of
sites that will give you a place to start:
